Octopus Energy R&D Centre – M&E Installation

Client: APSS
Programme: 2022/2023
Project Value: £1.45M
Sector: Industrial

The Project

Octopus Energy decided to heavily invest in a new state-of-the-art Research and Development Centre at their existing site in Slough.  The facility enables Octopus Energy to carry out R&D works on heat pumps and put them through rigorous testing with the use of  in-house Anechoic and Weather Chambers which were installed as part of the project.

Our Role

Elecomm secured this exciting opportunity with APSS Ltd. to deliver the MEP Services at the site, following a re-design and cost exercise to maintain the client budget.  Further to this Elecomm carried out value engineering exercises to  help secure the order. Elecomm were responsible for the Design, supply, installation & commissioning of MEP services whilst also heavily involved in liaising with the specialist contractors of the bespoke Anechoic and Weather chambers being installed within this facility.

The Challenges

Due to the specialist requirements of the install and extreme conditions the client had to test, the services installed included Gas detection,  LEV, bespoke demineralised water services, compressed air and custom test rigs requiring individual monitoring via a BMS system.

The Outcome

The facility now enables Octopus Energy to carry out specialised R&D and to train heat pump engineers to make them as accessible as possible to the market whilst also looking into the future of heat pump design.
