Sheffield University – AMRC MK3 – M&E and Data Installation

Client: University Of Sheffield/AMRC
Programme: 2023/2024
Project Value: £7.4M
Sector: Manufacturing R&D

The Project

The project is a new build large scale composite manufacturing facility. Research carried out at  COMPASS (Composites at Speed and Scale) will allow AMRC to collect scalable industrial data for use by companies in various sectors, including aerospace, automotive and renewable energy.

Our Role

Elecomm worked closely with Henry Boot Construction Ltd to assist them with their bid for the project. Once the project was secured, we developed the concept design from stage 3 to construction stage. Design workshops with the client team were arranged to develop the scheme further ensuring all the client’s requirements were met. We then carried out the installation of the MEP services across site. Working closely with the HBC commissioning manager, we developed the commissioning programme and carried out commissioning of the various services.

The Challenges

  • We worked with HBC to target betterment of the initial programme by 3 weeks.
  • A technical commissioning process was carried out within this programme.
  • Coordination of the external gantry and M&E services.
  • Development of the specialist (Camfil) extract system to ensure compliance with the specification.
  • Development of the specialist high volume LEV system with all parties to ensure compliance with the specification and building constraints.
  • Large External Ductwork Risers Installation, with sections of ductwork insulated on ground floor level prior to install to reduce working at height and ease of install.

The Outcome

The project was delivered 3 weeks ahead of the construction programme and to the total satisfaction of the client.
